Patent Advisory
What this service covers
This page sets out what the Patent Advisory service includes, the order in which the stages run, and what is confirmed to you in writing before each one begins. A written scope is issued before any work is carried out, and fees are quoted by stage rather than by the hour.
Work is carried out on an information and process support basis. We explain how the procedure operates, prepare and check the documentation your matter requires, and manage the administrative steps and correspondence that follow. We do not provide legal advice or represent clients in proceedings.
- A structured review of your invention disclosure before any filing decision is taken
- Plain-English explanation of the difference between a provisional-type filing and a full application route
- A document and drawing checklist covering the technical description you will be asked to supply
- Guidance on the information a patent office expects from an applicant, and on the correspondence that follows

How it runs
The stages on this service
Every stage is confirmed in writing before it begins, and each closes with a written status summary.
Discovery conversation
A short call or written exchange to establish what you hold, what you are trying to protect and which deadlines are already running. No documents are needed for this stage, and no fee is charged for it.
Written scope and indicative fee
We set out in writing exactly what will be prepared, which stages are involved, what we need from you and the indicative fee for each stage. Work starts only once you have confirmed the scope in writing.
Document and information preparation
You receive a checklist of the documents, drawings, dates and ownership details required for your matter. We review what you send and tell you what is missing before anything is submitted.
Application and administration
Where an application, recordal or transfer is involved, we prepare the paperwork, explain the fee structure charged by the relevant office, and handle the administrative correspondence with you copied in throughout. For this service, that administrative work is handled on the basis described above.
Status reporting and reminders
You receive a written status summary at the end of each stage. Where a registration, renewal or response deadline falls in the future, it is added to your record and a reminder is issued in advance.
What you receive
Documentation, records and deadlines
Each stage produces a document you keep: the approved written scope, the preparation checklist for your matter, the confirmation of what was filed or recorded, and a schedule of the dates that now apply. Together they give you a record that does not depend on anyone’s memory.
- Approved written scope with the indicative fee for each stage
- Checklist of the documents and details your matter requires
- Written confirmation of everything prepared and submitted
- Deadline schedule with advance reminders for every date
